Statement from Governor Rick Scott Regarding Martin Luther King Jr. Day

1/13/2012 Tallahassee, Fla. – “This weekend our state and our nation will remember the legacy of a great man who challenged us to make the American dream available to every American. Martin Luther King Jr. inspires individuals to make sure every level of government removes every barrier preventing that dream from becoming a reality. When hurdles are removed, people are empowered to achieve everything their hard work, integrity and courage will allow.

“In my own life, and in Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll’s life, that dream was brought within reach when we each had the opportunity to get a good education. The same is true for every Floridian. Education puts within reach the dream Dr. King inspired us to believe. For that reason, Lt. Governor Carroll and I are working every day to make sure all of Florida’s children have the opportunity to get a good education.

“Together, we are working to speed up that day when the American dream is possible for every Floridian. As we ensure Floridians are able to get a job, access quality education and keep the cost of living low, we will achieve the goal Dr. King outlined for our state and our nation. Freedom will ring across our great state as an invitation to businesses and companies around the world to choose Florida as the best place to start, grow or expand a business.”
