Governor Scott Announces National Air Cargo Holdings Headquarters Relocation to Orlando

Global cargo logistics provider headquarters to create 105 new jobs

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that National Air Cargo Holdings, Inc., a global cargo logistics provider, and its subsidiary, National Airlines, has relocated its headquarters and airline offices to Orlando. The two year project will create 105 new jobs and $875,000 in capital investment to the community.

Governor Scott said, “Today’s great news from National Air Cargo Holdings further illustrates the pro-business climate we have built in Florida. Last month we added 34,500 private-sector jobs – the largest monthly increase in two-and-a-half years. We’re creating the most pro-business climate in the nation and we know IT’S WORKING in Florida.”

The company will occupy more than 25,000 square feet in the Citadel II building at 5955 T. G. Lee Boulevard, taking the entire fifth floor. For the short term, National is utilizing temporary space on the second floor of Citadel II while awaiting completion of its offices upstairs.

“Florida provides an aviation rich environment for our growing Airlines, and a wonderful home base for our employees,” says Glen Joerger, President of National Airlines. “Our former home at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti Michigan served us well when we flew DC-8s, however, once we retired those aircraft and started flying the larger Boeing aircraft all over the world, we no longer needed our business offices to be located in close proximity to a runway,” Joerger explained, adding that “we considered a number of cities when looking to move – Orlando was the best in every measure.”

“In addition to our employees working in Orlando and calling Florida home, we will have many more employees coming to the state on a regular basis as part of their jobs,” explained Jeff Miller, Vice President of Operations for the Airlines.

Florida is the 4th largest state (based on GDP) in the U.S. and the 21st largest economy in the world. The state’s low corporate tax burden and no personal income tax, high-quality workforce, and modern infrastructure provide the perfect climate for business.

“More than 2,600 headquarters offices can be found in Florida, and those companies are benefiting from being in this economic superstate,” said Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope, who serves as president & CEO of Enterprise Florida. “National Air Cargo Holdings is a great addition to our growing base of headquarters and we look forward to their continued leadership in the logistics and distribution industry.”

The project was made possible through strong partnerships between Enterprise Florida, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, City of Orlando, Orange County, Workforce Florida, Inc. and Department of Economic Opportunity.

“We are delighted to welcome National Air Cargo Holdings, Inc. to Orlando,” said Rick Weddle, president and CEO of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission. “They fit in naturally with the already strong aviation industry cluster as well as our corporate headquarters presence in the Orlando region.”

National Air Cargo has been approved for performance-based Qualified Targeted Industry Tax Refunds (QTI) and Quick Action Closing Fund. In addition, the City has approved a cash grant of $126,000 to support the project.

“When looking at cities for its relocation, National Air Cargo Holdings elevated Orlando to the top of its list in part because of our community’s strong military presence, well established aviation industry and high quality of life,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “In today’s economy, it’s not often that a large company like this would relocate its headquarter operations so Orlando is honored to welcome National Air Cargo and its employees to our community.”

“We are delighted to welcome National Air Cargo to Orange County,” said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. “By recruiting National Air Cargo’s national headquarters to Orange County, we will add 105 high-wage jobs to our community. We were thrilled to partner with the Governor’s office, the City of Orlando and the Metro Orlando EDC to bring this project to our region.” Continued Jacobs, “National Air Cargo will add to a growing chain of logistics and distribution companies that have chosen to locate or expand their operations in Orange County due to our skilled labor force, pro-business climate and exceptional quality of life.”

As part of the project, Workforce Florida, Inc. has offered National Air Cargo support through the Quick Response Training (QRT) grant program. QRT is an employer-driven training program designed to assist new value-added businesses and provide existing Florida businesses the necessary training for expansion. This program is customized, flexible, and responsive to individual company needs.

Workforce Central Florida will provide workforce identification services including prospective worker screening and testing. The value of these services is expected to be at least $52,500, or $500 per job.

“WCF is excited about the opportunities that the National Air Cargo Holdings relocation offers Central Florida job seekers,” said Workforce Central Florida’s President and CEO Pamela Nabors. “We are looking forward to helping our talented residents connect with the high-wage positions coming to our community. WCF applauds the efforts of Gov. Scott’s office, Orange County, the City of Orlando and the Metro Orlando EDC to bring National Air Cargo to Central Florida.”

“We are excited that National Air Cargo Holdings has chosen Orlando and Florida families to help their company grow and thrive,” said Jesse Panuccio, Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. “The relocation of National Air Cargo Holdings to Orlando is another win for our state and is evidence that Governor Scott’s efforts to develop Florida’s business climate as the best in the nation are working.”
