Governor Rick Scott Bolsters Press and External Affairs Offices

4/4/2011 Tallahassee, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott today announced the addition of two new members to his staff, and new responsibilities for two current staffers.

Karen Giorno joins the staff as Director of External Affairs. Giorno brings a wealth of strategic communications experience with her. She previously worked as Lead Advance Representative for First Lady Laura Bush, and as the Director of VIP and Strategic Outreach for the American Museum of Natural History.

Spencer Geissinger will take over as planned as Director of Federal Affairs in Washington, D.C. Geissinger has been with Governor Scott since the campaign as Director of Scheduling and Advance, and then as Director of the Inauguration. Prior to his service with the Governor, Geissinger served as the Deputy Assistant to the President for Operations and Advance, coordinating military, security and operational agencies associated with the President of the United States’ travel.

Lane Wright has been appointed Press Secretary for Governor Scott, bringing with him more than five years of experience as a journalist. Most recently he served as managing editor of Sunshine State News where he produced written and broadcast-style stories for the online publication and assisted with managing staff. Prior to that, Wright helped launch an innovative newscast for WTVX in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he also reported on everything from city and county governments to the 2008 presidential campaign. Wright began his career as a reporter for WRIC-TV in Richmond, VA.

Amy Graham has been promoted to Traveling Press Secretary from Deputy Press Secretary. Graham will be responsible for advising the Governor on press matters while traveling and for coordinating all press interviews and media interactions for the Governor. Prior joining the Governor’s transition staff after the election, Graham served as Press Secretary for the Department of Environmental Protection.
