Governor Scott Honors Teachers with a Proclamation for Teacher Appreciation Week

Today, Governor Rick Scott issued the following proclamation recognizing May 5-9 as Teacher Appreciation Week:

WHEREAS, with Florida’s education system ranking sixth in the nation, it is appropriate that we recognize our teachers for their passion in educating Florida’s students; and

WHEREAS, an investment in Florida teachers is an investment in Florida’s future, which is why the approval of $480 million in teacher pay raises for the fiscal year 2013-2014 was critical to our state; and

WHEREAS, teachers provide our children with a solid education and instill in them a thirst for knowledge and the inspiration to excel throughout college, career, and life; and

WHEREAS, Florida is home to more than 192,000 teachers, serving nearly 2.7 million public school students statewide; and

WHEREAS, Florida parents entrust teachers to educate and mold their students to become productive citizens and successful contributors to Florida’s economy; and

WHEREAS, Florida teachers often make many sacrifices as they fulfill their responsibilities both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, teachers deserve the gratitude and esteem of students, parents, and our Florida communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Scott, Governor of the State of Florida, do hereby extend greetings and best wishes to all observing May 5-9, 2014, as Teacher Appreciation Week.
