Gov. Rick Scott: Trial Lawyers and Unions are Playing Politics Instead of Putting Florida Children First

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Scott issued the following statement following the Florida Education Association’s suit targeting Florida’s Tax Credit Scholarship Program.

Governor Scott said, “Today, Florida’s Tax Credit Scholarship Program provides more than 50,000 poor children access to a quality education and its student population is nearly 70 percent African Americans and Hispanics. It is unconscionable that trial lawyers and unions have ganged up to use these children as a political ploy. Quite simply, this careless action could have terrible consequences on the lives of Florida’s poorest children, who with the help of this program have a chance to escape poverty.

“Parents should have the opportunity to provide their children with the best education possible – and this suit flies in the face of those families who care about their child’s future. Once again, the usual Obama-team of trial lawyers and unions are playing politics instead of putting Florida children first – and we look forward to defending every families right to a quality education.”
