Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointments of Steven Scott, M.D., Eric Silagy and Kent Stermon to the Board of Governors of the State University System.
“Human capital is our greatest strength to ensure the success of our economic future and Florida’s universities lead the way in shaping that success,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “These individuals have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and the economic growth of our state. They will be strong advocates for the continued success of Florida’s top-ranked university system.”
Steven Scott, M.D.
Steven Scott, M.D., of Palm Beach, serves as chairman of Scott Holdings, LLC, an entrepreneurial medical investment company. Dr. Scott is passionate about higher education development, particularly in graduate education and research. He has served many years as a Trustee for the University of Florida, as well as the Duke Health Board of Trustees. He received his medical degree from Indiana University Medical Center and completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Scott is appointed for the remaining seven years of a term.
Eric Silagy
Eric Silagy, of Palm Beach Gardens, is the President and CEO of Florida Power and Light Company. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Silagy earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Texas and his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. Silagy is appointed for the remaining seven years of a term.
Kent Stermon
Kent Stermon, of Jacksonville, is the COO of Total Military Management. He has served on several nonprofit boards including Boys and Girls Club, Dreams Come True and NFCA of Northeast Florida. He is an ardent supporter of law enforcement and has been named Citizen of the Year by both Duval and Saint John’s County Sheriff for his philanthropic efforts supporting law enforcement. He currently serves on the Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council and was chair of the Governor’s Public Safety Transition Advisory Committee. In 2011, he was named the Ultimate CFO by Jacksonville Business Journal and was recognized as a member of their 40 Under 40 list. He received his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Georgia State University. Stermon is appointed for the remaining seven years of a term.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
