The Office of Open Government is charged with providing both the Executive Office of the Governor and each of Florida’s agencies with guidance and tools to serve Florida with integrity and transparency.
On January 8, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 19-11 re-establishing the Governor’s Office of Open Government. The order states, in part:
The Governor’s Office of Open Government, in coordination with the General Counsel, will (1) facilitate Floridians’ right to access the public records of the Executive Office of the Governor; (2) establish and maintain a website providing information on readily requesting public records; and (3) provide routine training for employees within the Executive Office of the Governor regarding Florida’s public records and sunshine laws.
Submit a Public Records Request
Pursuant to Chapter 119 F.S., when making a public records request:
- You are not required to give your name.
- You are not required to explain why you are making a request.
- You are not required to submit a request for public records in writing. Requestors are welcome to the electronic form or contact our office using any of the information below.

Helpful Tips
The Governor’s Office of Open Government begins processing requests in the order they are received and works to fulfill all requests as quickly as possible. Broad or laborious requests can take longer to fulfill and may be subject to service fees. Specific, narrow requests – especially those that identify custodians, search terms, and date ranges – help our office provide requestors with any responsive documents in the most timely and efficient manner.
Our office processes requests for documents of which the Executive Office of the Governor is the custodian. Requests for documents within the custodianship of other state agencies should be directed to the appropriate agency.

Frequently Requested Documents
The Governor’s Office of Open Government helps direct requestors to free online sources whenever possible. This includes information on employee salaries, travel expenditures, appointments, etc.
Florida Has a Right to Know
The Florida Has a Right to Know website provides data on state employee names, place of employment, position title, and salary. For questions concerning the State University data, please contact the Florida Board of Governors at (850) 245-0466. Questions about all other state employee data should be directed to Department of Management Services at (850) 488-2786.

Chapter 119 F.S.
Florida Statutes Chapter 119 outlines state policy on public records. It states what documents are considered public record, what information is exempt from public disclosure and how states offices are expected to comply with requests for public records.

Cost Estimate Policy
In accordance with Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes, requests that require extensive use of state resources are subject to a fee. Should a fee apply, requestors will be provided with an initial labor deposit that represents half of the total cost estimate. Upon receipt of payment, the Office of Open Government will continue to process the request. Once documents have completed processing, an additional invoice for the remainder of the total cost estimate may be assessed before production of the responsive documents.
