The Villages, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the state of Florida will be sending 4,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine to reopen a vaccination site in The Villages. This site, which will now be permanent, will be in addition to the permanent vaccination site at the Wildwood Community Center, also in Sumter County.

In addition to the two permanent vaccination sites, the DeSantis administration continues to look for ways to make the vaccine more available to seniors. Florida has vaccinated more than 1.2 million seniors, which accounts for more than 70% of total vaccinations administered. The State’s partnership with Publix has continued to expand, offering vaccines at 261 Publix pharmacies across 20 counties. Additionally, to date, the Governor has directed the Division of Emergency Management and Florida Department of Health to partner with churches to provide vaccine. As a result, more than 25 vaccination events with the faith-based community have already taken place in 15 counties, allowing more than 13,000 individuals to have access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
