Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Denise Burns-LeGros and the reappointments of Mary Linville Atkins, John Griffin and Stephen Kepley to the Florida Board of Optometry.

Denise Burns-LeGros

Burns-LeGros, of Indialantic, is an optometrist at Brevard Vision Care. She was named Southeastern Conference of Optometrists Young Optometrist of the Year in 2016. Currently, she serves as education chair for the Brevard Optometric Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida and her doctor of optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University. Burns-LeGros is appointed to a four-year term.

Mary Linville Atkins

Atkins, of Tallahassee, is the former supervising attorney for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. She holds a Fair Hearing Certification from the National Judicial College and is a member of the Florida Bar Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas and her juris doctorate degree from Stetson University College of Law. Atkins is reappointed to a four-year term.

John Griffin

Griffin, of Tallahassee, is an attorney with Carson & Linn, P.A. Previously, he served in numerous roles in state government, including as cabinet aide to the Attorney General and the director of the Division of Economic Crimes Litigation. He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of South Florida and his juris doctorate degree from Stetson University College of Law. Griffin is reappointed to a four-year term.

Stephen Kepley

Kepley, of Vero Beach, is an optometrist at Tropical Eye Associates. He was awarded the Florida Optometrist of the Year Award in 2004 and Florida Optometrist of the Decade Award in 2016 by the Florida Optometric Association. He earned his doctor of optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Kepley is reappointed to a four-year term.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
