Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointments of Michael Morley, John Stinneford, Melissa Nelson, the Honorable Michael Andrews, Bradenton Police Chief Melanie Bevan and Pasco County Sheriff Christopher Nocco to the Criminal Punishment Code Task Force.

Michael Morley

Morley, of Windemere, is an assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Law. He previously taught at the Barry University School of Law, served as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the U.S. Army and clerked for Judge Gerald B. Tjoflat. Morely earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and his juris doctorate from Yale Law School.

John Stinneford

Stinneford, of Ponte Vedra Beach, is a professor at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. He previously taught at the Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Dayton School of Law. Stinneford earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, his master’s degree from Harvard University and his juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.

Melissa Nelson

Nelson, of Jacksonville, is a state attorney for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court. She currently serves on the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm’s National Gun Crime Intelligence Governing Board, the Florida Cold Case Advisory Commission and is a fellow at the American College of Trial Lawyers. Nelson earned her bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate from the University of Florida.

The Honorable Michael Andrews

Andrews, of Oldsmar, is a judge at the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court. He previously served as a judge for Pinellas County from 1997-2003. Andrews earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and his juris doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law.

Chief Melanie Bevan

Bevan, of Bradenton, is the Chief of Police of the Bradenton Police Department. She previously served with the St. Petersburg Police Department for 29 years. She has served in specialized positions such as a vice and narcotics detective and an intelligence and street crimes unit commander. Bevan is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from St. Leo University, her master’s degree in public administration from Troy State University and her doctorate in organizational leadership from Argosy University.

Sheriff Christopher Nocco

Nocco, of Land O’ Lakes, was appointed Sheriff of Pasco County in 2011 and was subsequently elected to the position in 2012. He previously worked for the Philadelphia Public School Police, the Fairfax County Police Department and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and his master’s degree in public administration from the University of Delaware.
